Repiping

Why Repipe?

The Repiping Process and Why It's Essential

There are many reasons why you might need to replace the pipes in your home. It's an important decision that can save you from a lot of future headaches and costly damage. Here are some of the most common reasons we recommend a whole-home repipe:

For Homes with Galvanized Plumbing

Galvanized iron pipes, which are iron pipes coated in zinc, were commonly used in homes built before the 1970s. Over time, this protective zinc coating wears away, leading to rust and corrosion buildup inside the pipes.

Symptoms:

  • Low Water Pressure: This is often a result of rust and corrosion buildup restricting water flow.
  • Rusty Water: If you notice rust-colored water coming from your faucets, it's a clear sign of advanced corrosion.
  • Leaky Pipes: As corrosion progresses, it can lead to leaks, many of which can be hidden inside walls, attics, or under your home.

For Homes with Copper Plumbing in the Slab

If your home's copper pipes are located under the foundation, they can be susceptible to what's known as a "slab leak." These leaks are caused by corrosion from certain soil and water conditions beneath your home, which can lead to significant damage.

Symptoms:

  • Water leaking through your foundation.
  • Water running constantly, even when all faucets are off.
  • An unusually high water bill.
  • The water meter showing a high reading when water is not in use.
  • Previous slab leaks in your home or a neighbor's.

For Homes with Polybutylene Plumbing

Used extensively from the mid-1970s to the mid-1990s, polybutylene was once hailed as the next big thing in plumbing. Unfortunately, this plastic piping was found to be highly defective. Chemicals in city water can cause the pipes and fittings to become brittle and burst without warning, earning them the nickname "ticking time bomb" among plumbers.

The Benefits of Repiping

Choosing to repipe your home offers numerous long-term benefits that go beyond just stopping leaks:

  • Increased Water Pressure: Enjoy strong, consistent water flow from all your faucets.
  • No More Discolored Water: Get clean, clear water free of rust and sediment.
  • Improved Water Quality: A new system ensures the water you use is high-quality.
  • Use Multiple Fixtures: Run the dishwasher and take a shower at the same time without a drop in pressure.
  • Greater Peace of Mind: Rest easy knowing your plumbing system is secure and reliable.
  • Adds Home Value: A new plumbing system is a significant selling point for your property.

The Installation Process

A full home repipe is a significant project, but our team handles it with professionalism and care to minimize disruption to your life.

  1. Day 1: Our crew will arrive and begin by carefully covering your floors, furniture, and any items that could be affected by dust from the wall openings.
  2. Installation: We will install the new piping system, both horizontally and vertically, throughout your home—including in walls, attics, and under your house.
  3. Transition: On the final day, we will temporarily shut off your water (usually for about five hours) to connect your new system.
  4. Testing & Finish: The new piping will be thoroughly tested and inspected. We then patch the walls and, if necessary, re-texture them. Finally, all furniture will be moved back, and you can enjoy your new, reliable plumbing system.
